Mary Kay Makeover

Mary Kay Makeover

I let my mom give me a mini Mary Kay makeover today. Here are the products that I used to achieve this look. All products are from Mary Kay!

-eyeshadow colors: blue metal (on the entire lid), plum (to create a smokey eye), and moonstone (illuminating contour color under the brow and the inside corners of the eyes)
-violet eye liner (purple really helps blue eyes to pop!)
-lash lengthening mascara
-brushed copper blush (gives your cheeks a sun-kissed glow!)
-illuminating cream (used to try and conceal my dark circles.. thanks to genetics, I always have really dark circles under my eyes no matter how much I sleep!)
-lips: Pink Cherie True Dimensions Lip Stick and Pink Luster Lip Gloss

I recommend Mary Kay products to those of you who enjoy quality while also being somewhat affordable. It can be a little bit more pricey than the usual drug store cosmetics, but there are some products that I would recommend spending the extra dollars for quality!

Faith Quote

Faith Quote

“God sometimes takes us into troubled waters, not to drown us but to cleanse us.”

I love this quote because it really does bring to truth God and His life plans for us. Whenever I feel like I’m drowning, I know that He has a bigger and better outcome for me! I’ve gotta have faith.

“Sock” Bun

The sock bun is becoming a huge hit with many women everywhere! I thought I’d try it out for myself since my hair is very particular (like it’s hard to curl my hair but easy to straighten). Here is my review of the Charlotte Russe mesh donut!

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT AND THE RESULTS! It actually worked very well! It only cost me about $4 to buy a brown mesh hair donut from Charlotte Russe. They also sell one for blonde hair for those of you who are blonde. I definitely recommend it! It added so much volume to my hair and it only took about one minute to do!

How to recreate your own sock bun (using a mesh donut, a sock, or some other type of round device):
1. Comb all of your hair so there are no knots. Comb your hair back on your head so it lays smoothly on the top of your head (if you’re going for a very sleek look). Use whatever products you wish (mousse, hairspray, etc.)
2. Put your hair into a ponytail. The height depends on how high you would like your bun. I placed mine relatively low on my head just because I wanted to see how it would look placed lower. Most women place their ponytail on the top most point in the back of the head. Try out different places for the best results!
2. Once your hair is in a ponytail, feed the hair in your ponytail through the donut hole until it’s almost as if the donut itself is another ponytail elastic.
3. The next part is the biggest step! Starting at the end of your ponytail with the donut, start to tuck and “fold” your hair around the donut, tucking the hair all around the donut to cover the mesh. The way that I do the tucking is to place my thumbs underneath the donut and pushing the hair under and into the donut. The other four fingers help to keep tucking the hair and control where the hair is being placed. Keep tucking the hair and folding down the donut until the bun is completely flat against your head.
4. Finish by making sure none of the mesh is visible. Use hairspray to set as well as bobby pins if there are any loose pieces.
5. Viola!

I give this 5 out of 5 stars. It seemed that my bun worked best on freshly washed hair… I’ve tried it on dirtier hair, but I had a hard time with flyaways and it looking greasy. Whatever works best for you depends on your hair type and what you prefer!

Pink Pagoda Lip Lacquer

Pink Pagoda Lip Lacquer

Just received my new Pink Pagoda Lip Lacquer from Mary Kay. Here is my product review!

I love the shine that this gives to my lips.. it is a nice change from the typical matte or “glittery” type of lip products that I have tried. I also love that it comes in a little jar with a lip brush. It helps to evenly coat my lips.

One thing that I didn’t quite like is that I expected the color to be bright pink on my lips. It is more of a subdued pink color, so not nearly as bright as I had hoped. I am still on the search for a hot pink lip stick because I feel that it is a great color for the springtime!

I’d give this lip product a 4 out of 5 stars. I love that it gives a nice sheen and it feels weightless. It would have received 5 full stars if the color would have been what I had wished!

I recommend it if you’re looking for a new lipstick to try!

Mary Kay Pink Pagoda Lip Lacquer

Mary Kay Pink Pagoda Lip Lacquer

My mom sells Mary Kay, so I get to test out her new products for free that she buys! I am most excited for the new Pink Pagoda Lip Lacquer (featured on the newest catalog’s cover). It comes in a small jar with a mini retractable brush for application.

I used to hate wearing lip gloss and lip stick, but I am starting to understand that it can change your whole look! Depending on the color and the texture (shiny or matte), it can give it a different vibe. I love that the Lip Lacquer has a very glossy appearance and is bright pink! It seems very fun. I have lipsticks that are close to this color, but they have a more matte appearance. I am definitely on the lookout for a more glossy type, so I can’t wait to test it out!

Tips for perfect lips: always line your lips with clear lip liner before applying lip stick or lip gloss. This will keep the color from bleeding onto your skin from your lips. Then apply the lip gloss or lip stick to the center of your lip and use a brush to help blend it outwards. This will create more dimension. Add layers for added dimension, color, and shine. To make your lips stand out even more, apply a highlighter to the skin right above the top middle part of your lip. This will add extra dimension!

Hope this helpful application techniques helps you to create the perfect lip after finding your favorite shade and style of lip products!

PopSugar Full Body Circuit Workout

PopSugar Full Body Circuit Workout

I absolutely LOVE the PopSugar website!! I recommend it to anyone looking for fitness and workout ideas. I did this workout tonight: the three rounds of the full body circuit. It really gets your blood pumping! I added extra reps to make the circuits count as well as filled each 60 second “rest” time with jogging in place to burn extra calories.

Check out the other workouts on the PopSugar website. They’re all really great! I also end each workout with doing my own weight lifting with five pound weights and a stability ball workout. I definitely see results even after a quick workout.

Enjoy!

Inspiration for the day

Inspiration for the day

Photo from Pinterest
Found this lovely piece of inspiration today and thought I’d share it! Everyone faces worry at different points in their lives. It is all about how you deal with it that makes the ultimate difference and outcome. Why worry about something that is unchangeable? Embrace the change and don’t let worry get in the way of your living today. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it!
I’ve been dealing with a lot of worry lately with my job search, but I know that I shouldn’t let it get in my way of my happiness today. I’ve been working hard and submitting applications left and right. I also received my first letter today that said my application was wonderful but they chose to go with someone else. A little bit of a blow, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Something good will happen in its own time. I just know it!

“Lazy Girl” Workouts

This is my first post on my fitness page of my new blog! Working out is something that I enjoy doing so I not only look healthy but so I can feel good about myself as well. It’s amazing the difference it makes on a day in which I feel like I have accomplished nothing. Even a five minutes workout is better than nothing at all (or so my motto is)! You don’t have to be as good as those trainers you see on workout videos. Never compare yourself to them because they’ve been training for YEARS to get to where they are at. For those of you beginning a fitness journey, I am right there with you 🙂

I am most active during the summer months, so I tend to “hibernate” in the winter and feel excessively lazy. But, I have to FORCE myself to make those changes in myself because I know that it is important. I don’t workout on a regular basis, just here and there when I get time, but I feel amazing those days that I do! I can’t wait for spring and summer to get here so I can get back into running around town. I always have to retrain so I can get my stamina back. Last summer was the best summer of running that I’ve experienced. I even ran 6 miles without stopping! Now, that’s very rare for me. I never liked running. But when you get your groove, you’ll know how to push yourself and how long to go. It’s all about perseverance and dedication.

During this winter, I came up with an idea for a “Lazy Girl” workout…. for those days that I had no ambition to strap on my tennis shoes and workout gear. This workout may seem slightly bizarre but I PROMISE you, that I have actually noticed a difference in myself and in my muscles! Below is what I typically do for these workouts… it is super easy!

Working out doesn’t necessarily mean you have to hit the gym. In fact, this workout is one done simply at home during moments in my day that I am just standing around. Ok, let me explain… again it may sound slightly different. Just hang in there and listen! While standing in the shower one day, I thought to myself, “I could be working out right now… I’m just standing here waiting for the shampoo to be rinsed out.” Then, LIGHTBULB. I can be working out right now! Here is my typical “shower” workout.. it’s nothing strenuous (so you don’t slip in the shower!) and doesn’t tire you out.

1. 100 calf raises (For beginners just start with about 40-50. You’ll feel the burn… that means it’s working!!)
2. 20 side dips (Place both hands on the top of your head. Bend straight to the left side at the waist 45 degrees. Go back to the start position, holding your hands on your head. Repeat this motion but on the right side. That is one rep. Continue to bend to the left and to the right until you finish 20 reps. These will help cinch in your waist so you can get that hourglass figure!)
3. 20 Squats (Stand with feet shoulder width apart. Pretend to sit in an imaginary chair as you squat down. Hold for 3 seconds and return back to the standing position. Continue to do this for 20 squats. Feel your hamstrings burn! Do more if you are able to do so.)
4. 20 standing crunches (Place both hands on the top of your head. Bend forward as far as possible until your back is parallel with the floor. Make sure to tuck in your abs as you do this. Return back to the starting position and continue to do this for 20 reps. Really tuck in those abs or it won’t be as affective!)
5. 25 standing pushups (Depending upon how your shower is built, make sure you have enough room to place two hands on one wall and lean into it almost like a standing plank. Decide the most comfortable angle for you as you will be doing pushups against the wall. Just like a pushup you do on the floor, lean your body weight into your arms as you do 25 wall pushups. Be careful… it might be slippery!)
6. 20 leg lifts (Stand with your feet together. With your right leg and using just your hip, right leg, and abs, lift your leg directly backwards about 45 degrees. Return back to start. This is on rep. Complete 20 reps on this leg. Switch to the left leg and do another set of 20. It helps to shape your butt and get rid of those love handles!)

What better place to workout than in the shower! Give me your comments about this workout and let me know what you think! You can also do some of these moves while you’re brushing your teeth, waiting for the toast to pop out of the toaster, and so forth.

Hope you enjoy and notice the body changes that I have even with such a small workout! The key is to do this every day. Add reps as you get better and stronger and change up the order every once in a while to keep your body guessing what will come next.

Management Tip #1

I stumbled across great classroom management ideas during a subbing position last week for first graders!

1. “Mystery Walker”: As a teacher, have sticks with students names on them. Before going out as a class into the hallway for transition time, choose a stick and keep that child’s name a secret. If this student is quiet and respectful in the hallway upon walking to the other classroom as well as back, they receive one ticket. Once a student has collected five total tickets, they get to choose a prize from the treasure chest!

2. “Power Pellets”- A great motivating idea, for those teachers that like incentives. Power pellets are simply M&M’s. Every time a student is working quietly at his or her desk, give him or her a power pellet to remind them that they are doing a great job. Other students will take notice and want one as well, so control should spread across the room. Great for first grade students!

Last year's evening wear competition!

Last year’s evening wear competition!

Now, I may not be stick skinny or the typical "pageant body" type, but I AM ME> And I find myself beautiful! All ladies are born beautiful, without makeup and the flashy styles of clothing and accessories. Be yourself and you will shine. Wear your attitude and be confident, and it will show! :)

Welcome

My very fits post on my brand new blog!

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Jackie and I am a brand new blogger. My hopes with this blog is to keep everyone informed on at least a weekly basis about what I’m up to and to give advice to those who are also in the same walk of life as I am.

I just graduated with a teaching degree and cannot wait to see where God places me next year. I am praying daily for Him to find me opportunities to apply for full time positions. It has helped me learn to build patience and perseverance above all else! I know there is a bigger plan at hand, so I am anxiously awaiting to see where I end up!

Besides my career as a teacher, I also like to call myself a down-earth-girl with also an interesting “pageant-ista” personality. I am the typical girl next year… I love to wear sweatpants, bake and cook, do fun craft projects, spend time with family and friends, and so forth. But, there is also a very different side of me that I also enjoy very much that has become part of me over the past year or so!

Last year was my first year competing for the Miss Wisconsin USA pageant title in September. I never thought I’d see myself up on a stage in front of hundreds of people, walking around in a swimsuit and evening gown. Well, I must say it was a unique and completely humbling experience… one that touched my heart SO much, that I am going to be competing again this year. I definitely look forward to it! Some of my blog posts will discuss my journey towards being ready and tips for those fellow pageants beauties (both inside and out) who are interested in my journey!

Let’s take this journey together as I am starting a new chapter in my life. I’m hoping that this blog will be inspirational for you and it will find you growing stronger confidence in who you are.

Thank you for checking it out!

xoxo Jackie
